UPPSC 2010 Syllabus for Agriculture (Subject Code 01):
Agriculture, its problems and prospects, its importance in national economy, concept of agro-ecological zoning. Different agro-ecological zones of U.P., crop-ecology, factors affecting geographical distribution of field crops, Important field crops of U.P., Culture practices of cereal pulse, oilseed, fibre, sugar and tuber crops in hills, plains and vindhya plateau of U.P. scientific basis of corporotation, multiple cropping, relay cropping, intercropping and mixed cropping.
Soils and their composition, mineral and organic constituent of soil and their role in crop production, chemical, physical and microbiological properties of soils. Essentiality of plant nutrients, essential and non-essential but useful plant nutrients, their occurrence and cycling of soils, principles of soil fertility and its evaluation for judicious use of fertilizers. Organic manures and bio-fertilizers, straight, complex and mixed fertilizers manufactured and marketed in India.
Role of fruits and vegetables in balanced diet, deficiency diseases and symptoms. Major tropical, sub-tropical and temperate fruits of U.P. acreage and production, rootstock and propagation methods. Problems in crop production and their remedy, pre and post harvest physiology. training, pruning and orchard soil management, Major vegetable crops of U.P. their distribution, production Rotation, intercropping, mixed cropping Chemical, Mechanical and biological weed control Pre and post-handling of vegetables protected vegetable culture with reference to quality and production. Preservation and processing of fruits and vegetable, suitable containers for preserved products.
Plant physiology with reference of plant nutrition, absorption, adsorption, translocation and metabolism of nutrients. Methods of diagnosis of nutrient deliciencies and their methods of amelioration. Factors influencing plant growth and development, use of growth regulators in crop production.
Role of genetic and plant breeding in improvement of agronomical and horticultural crops. Methods adopted for development of hybrids and composites. Use of mutagenic chemicals and growth regulators in breeding. Major pest & diseases of improvement kharif and Rabi crops and their control measure, concept and application of integrated pest Management.
Principles of economic as applied to agriculture, farm planning and resource management for optimal production, farming systems, marketing of agricultural produce and regulated markets in U.P. Role of agricultural costs and prices in agricultural production. Extension education: its meaning, philosophy, objectives and principles. Early extension effort and changes in concepts and approaches of India's CD. Programme / Extension approaches & their methods. The process of communication, extension system and programme. Training & visit. KVK, KGK, NARPNATP, AHRD and IVLP., people's participation and motivation. Training and its methology in extension evaluation.
