Concept of Life: Elementary knowledge of origin of life; unity of life; biochemical and molecular basis cell evolution prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, general concepts of evolution Plant Anatomy; Elementary knowledge of structure and functions of tissues, tissue system, evolution of steles, nature of plant cell wall.

Plant Diversity: Classification, general account of structure, reproduction, life cycles and economic importance of virus, bacteria, algee, fungi, lichens, bryophytes, pteridophytes and gymnosperms including fossils, morphology and anatomy of root, stem, leaf, structure of flower and seed, secondary growth, embryology-microsporogenesis and male gametophyte, megasporogenesis nad famale gametophyte, pollination, fertilization and embryogony, experimental embryotogy-Tissue culture, principles of plant taxonomy, nomenclature systems of classification of anglosperms, current trends in plant taxonomy, distinguishing, features of Renuncuiacae, Magnollaceae, Brassicaceae, Malvaceae, Fabaceae, Rosaceace, Aplaceae, Cucurbitaceae, Soinnaceace, Asciepindinceae, Verbinaceae, Larniaceae, Asteroceace, Apocnaceae, Euphorblanceae, Araceae, Ponceae and Orchidaceae.

Part - II

Plant Physiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology: Water relation of plants, mineral nutrition, translocation; enzymes and coenzymes, micro and macro elements, photosynthesis-C3 and C4 Carbon cycles, photorespiration, respiration fats and oils, nitrogen fixation, nitrogen metabolism, protein synthesis and nucleic acids; carbohydrates and their classification; growth and movements scenesence, growth hormones and growth regulators, physiology of flowering and seed germination.

Cell-biology and Genetics: Ultrastructure and function of cell organelles, cell membrance, chromosomal morphology, mitosis Mendal's Laws and inheritance, linkage and crossing over, gene concept nature of genetic material, genetic code, mutation, recombinant DNA technology and gene cloning and its application in human welfare.

Morphogenesis and Tissue culture: Definition, polarity, symmetry, totipotency, differentiation, morphogenetic factors, Protoplast culture; sormaclonal variations; somatic hybrids; significance of tissue culture.

Part-Ill Microbiology: Microbial activity, their infection and immunity, application of microbiology in agriculture, medicine and industry, Plant Pathology : Principles of plant pathology, Etiology and control; principle diseases caused by virus, bacteria, fungi and nematodes.

Ecology: Ecological factors; Plant community and plant succession; biosphere ecosystem; abiotic and biotic components flow of energy, ecological adaptations; environmental pollution and its control; natural resources and their conservation; factors of environmental degradation, green house effect and depletion of ozone.

Economic Botany: Plants as sources of food, fibres, timber, drugs, rubber, beverages, spices, resins and gums, dyes essential oils, pesticides and biofertilizers; ornamental plants and energy plantations.
