Damodar Valley Corporation, one of the premier power utilities in India engaged in Thermal / Hydel power generation, Transmission and Distribution with its Head Quarters in Kolkata invites applications from Indian citizens only for its various power projects / offices spread over across the state of West Bengal and Jharkhand.
To fill up the following posts, DVC is looking for young and promising Graduate Engineers having excellent academic record to join the organization as
Graduate Engineer Trainees - Total Vacancy: 300.
Mechanical (Post No-2009/1) - 150 (UR-73, OBC-44, SC-18, ST-15 & PH-5 (OA/OL/PD)
Electrical (Post No-2009/2) - 105 (UR-50, OBC-31, SC-I2, ST-12, PH-4 (OL/PD)
Control & Instrumentation (Post No-2009/3) - 45 (UR-23, OBC-12, SC-7, ST-3, PH-2 (OL/PD)
Note: The above vacancies may vary at the time of final selection. PH Vacancies are included in the overall vacancy.
Qualification: 4 years full time bachelor degree in engineering & technology in Electrical / Mechanical /Control & Instrumentation from any recognized college/institute/ university approved by AICTE with not less than 65% marks in aggregate for General & OBC candidates. 5% marks is relaxable for SC & ST candidates.
Final year appearing candidates possessing 65% (GEN & OBC) / 60% (SC & ST) marks in aggregate in the 6 (six) completed semesters / 3 (Three) years examination and expecting final semester result by August 2009 are also eligible to apply for the posts.
Pay scale of Rs.15.600-39,100/- + GP (PB-3) Rs.5650/- plus other allowances as per company's rules in force from time to time.
Training Period: 1 year. After Successful Completion of Training Period, He/She shall be absorbed as Assistant Engineer in the above Pay Scale.
Mode of Application: Candidate should apply through DVC's Online Registration system only. The Online Registration will be available on the website: www.dvc.gov.in and will be activated from 04.06.2009 (Midnight 12.00 hrs.) to 23.06.2009 (Midnight 12.00 hrs.).
No other mode of application will be accepted. The closing date of receipt of Registration slip is 06.07.2009.

Selection Process: Eligible candidates will have to undergo a Selection Test followed by personal interview of short listed candidates.
Based on merit and requirement, the list of successful candidates for interview will be made available at www.dvc.gov.in.
Upper age Limit as on 1.1.2009:
- The upper age limit for General Category is 29 years as on 01.01.2009 i.e. candidate born before 01.01.1980 need not apply.
- The upper age limit for OBC (Non-creamy layer) is 32 years as on 01.01.2009 i.e. candidate born before 01.01.1977 need not apply.
- The upper age limit for SC/ST Category is 34 years as on 01.01.2009 i.e. candidate born before 01.01.1975 need not apply.
- For PH Candidate, the Upper age limit is as per the GOI Rule.
Reservations and Relaxations:
Reservations and relaxations for SC/ST/ OBC (non-creamy layer) / Physically Handicapped (degree of disability 40% or above) candidates will be provided as per GOI Directives.
Category (SC / ST /OBC/ PH) once filled in the online application form will not be changed and no benefit of other category will be admissible later on.
No registration fee will be charged from SC/ST & physically Challenged category candidates.
The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates. For PH candidates, it is relaxable by 10 years for PH-General, 13 years for PH-OBC and 15 years for PH-SC/ST candidates.
The OBC candidates who belong to "Creamy Layer" are not entitled for OBC concession and such candidates have to indicate their category not as OBC but as General only.
Type of Disability: OL: One Leg, OA: One Arm, PD: Partially Deaf.
Service Agreement Bond: All the selected candidates for appointment will be required to execute a service agreement bond of Rs.2,00.000/- (Rupees Two Lakhs) for serving atleast 4 years to DVC. This should be submitted at the time of joining period as per DVC format.
Compensation Package: Selected candidates will be placed in the pay scale of Rs.15,600-39,100/- + Grade Pay (PB-3) Rs.5,656/- during One-year training period.
After successful completion of one year training period, he/she will be absorbed as Assistant Engineer in the above pay scale with one increment in the above pay scale.
Besides basic pay, candidates will also be paid Central Dearness Allowance. Other Allowances and benefits such as leave, medical treatment, Leave Travel Allowance, Provident Fund, Gratuity, Conveyance Allowance and HRA etc. admissible as per company's rules in force from time to time during training / after absorption.
Placement: The selected candidates shall undergo one year training at various DVC formations. After successful completion of one year training to the best satisfaction of the Corporation, they will be absorbed as Assistant Engineer at any of the projects/ stations or offices of DVC.
Test Centers: The selection test will be held in Kolkata and Ranchi as mentioned in the online application system. Candidates have to choose one of the centers as Test Center and no change in any circumstance will be considered subsequently.
However, DVC reserves the right to cancel or add any center depending on the response of the candidates for that area / center.
Admission to the test center will be on production of Admit Card, which is to be downloaded by the candidates only from the website.
About Test: The written test is tentatively scheduled on 02.08.2009 (Sunday). The test will be of 2 (two) hours duration consisting of 80 multiple- choice questions of the relevant technical disciplines and 40 multiple-choice questions on Aptitude / GK / Current Affairs.
Each question will carry 1 equal mark. l/4th mark will be deducted for each wrong answered question.
